Kelso v Grange 2s
Saturday 7th July 2018
Kelso beat top of the table Grange 2s by 36 runs to put them right back in contention for the Eastern Championship title.
Batting first at Shedden Park, Kelso posted a slightly sub-par total of 200-9 from their 50 overs. Kelso lost two quick wickets at 24-2, but strong contributions from Tristan Van Ingen-Kal (50) and Tom Grindell (41) ensured that the innings was back on track to enable Kelso to capitalise in the final 10 overs. However both batsmen fell, leaving Thomas Roberts (22) and Dougie Wilson (15) to add some final runs to the Kelso total. Grange overseas L Hillis was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 wickets.
Kelso needed to bowl and field extremely well to have a chance of defeating the so-far unbeaten visitors. Grange got off to a steady start, before Kelso removed three quick wickets from the bowling of Stuart Cessford and Callum Davidson. Despite a brief Grange counter attack, Ben Grindell then removed the dangerous Grange Keeper to leave them needing 100 from the final 15 overs with the dangerous Elliot Keenan still at the crease. However great closing bowling from Michael Eckard, Ben and Greg Davidson ensured Kelso picked up Elliot’s wicket in the 47th over and with that Grange’s chances of winning the game.
Kelso travel to Musselburgh next weekend where they will look to continue their charge towards the title.
