Kelso v Carlton 2s
Saturday 9th June 2018
Kelso travelled to Carlton 2s on Saturday in a nail biting fixture.
Kelso won the toss and elected to bat, looking to cash in on a relatively flat pitch. However, an impressive first spell from the Carlton opening bowlers resulted in Kelso losing 3 wickets in quick succession, leaving the away side 15-3 after 6 overs. J. Galling (30) led the fight back for the away side, before eventually being removed looking to accelerate the innings. At 70-7, T. Mitchell (44) and D. Wilson (42) came to the crease, striking a much needed 80-run 7th wicket partnership to bring the innings to a close on 177-8 off their 50 overs.
Kelso got off to the perfect start with the ball removing both openers in quick succession. C. Adams continued his fine form, bowling 5 maidens in his 10 over spell with figures of 2-11. T. Mitchell’s (4-19) impressive spin bowling continued to tie the batsmen down, taking wickets at regular intervals to restrict the run rate. M. Eckard (2-12) and B. Grindell (1-26) were then left to clean up the tail, with Kelso eventually winning by 95 runs and taking them to third in the ESCA Championship table.
