Kelso v Dunnikier
23 July 16
Kelso CC came up against rivals Dunnikier in their round 13 East of Scotland Championship fixture, at Shedden Park over the weekend. Kelso CC won the toss and elected to bat once again, looking to build a sizeable total. The Tweedsiders’ opening batsmen got off to a wonderful start posting a terrific partnership at the top of the order. C. Adams and T. Grindell put Kelso in front of the game early on with some truly textbook cricket shots and efficient running between the wickets. Inform batsmen C. Adams was dismissed for a noble 40, however T. Grindell continued on and later cashed in his hard work to notch up almost a second hundred for the year. The Young batsmen was able to score the bulk of his runs in the last few overs of the innings, steering Kelso to a total of 212 for the loss of just 5 wickets. The young batsmen finished on 99*, other contributions came from S. Patterson 22 and M. Hughes 19.
Dunnikier didn’t get off to the best of starts with the bat losing three quick wickets at the top of the order. Opening bowlers S. Cessford and G. Davidson were able to capitalize on the overcast conditions and make use of the slow wicket. Dunnikier captain S. Rowley and F. Rafi were the only notable batsmen for the away side but posed no threat to the Kelso total scoring 35 and 28 respectively. Overseas player M. Hughes and C. Davidson were able to run through the bottom order of the Dunnikier batting attack, dismissing them for just 91. M. Hughes was the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 3/13 from 7 overs whilst C. Davidson chipped in with 3/14 from 6.1 overs. Overall Kelso performed well in all facets of the game and executed their skills well. They’ll look to replicate this against Grange 2nd’s this Saturday at home.
