Kelso v Murrayfield DAFS
Saturday 28th April 2018
Kelso beat Murrayfield DAFS by 93 runs in their first Eastern Championship game of 2018.
New skipper Mark Henderson won the toss and elected to bat first. Mark ensured Kelso got off to a very solid start, reaching 27 before eventually falling with Kelso 84-3. Tristan Van Ingen-Kal, in his first game for Kelso, ensured that the momentum wasn't lost during his debut innings of 65. Tom Grindell and Callum Davidson steadied the ship after losing 3 quick wickets, putting on a partnership of 88 before Callum eventually fell for very fluent 27. Tom continued to accelerate towards the end of the innings before eventually being out for 90. Kelso finished up on 233-9, an above-par score for the early season wicket.
Murrayfield DAFs got off to a flying start in pursuit of the Kelso target, but the loss of regular wickets meant they were never in control. Ben Grindell removed 3 of the top 4, with good catching in the cordon from Craig Adams. Craig and Callum then bowled patiently to the middle order, offering few easy runs. Callum finished with 2 wickets, and Craig 3. Murray Mason bowled 3 very tidy overs at the death, finishing with a much deserved wicket.
A good start for Kelso in 2018, who will look to build upon this performance next week away at Grange.
