Kelso v Grange 2s

Grange Home Shedden Park hosted Grange 2 in the East of Scotland Championship over the weekend in sunny conditions at the home of Kelso cricket. Captain D. Wilson lost the toss and was handed the ball on what looked to be a two-paced wicket offering both sides something with bat and ball. Kelso were able to take key wickets early with opening quick S. Cessford taking two wickets in his opening spell. He was backed up at the other end by inform young bowler G. Davidson who picked up Grange’s H. Philip LBW with some superb swing bowling. The opposition fought back well with the middle order compiling a good partnership between J. Brock 56 and S. Davidson 32. Ben Grindell was the pick of the bowlers removing both batsmen in fine fashion, finishing with figures of 3/41 from 6 overs. Overseas player M. Hughes also picked up a few wickets with figures of 3/21 from 6.2 overs at the death. Grange 2 managed 182 runs from 46.2 overs.

 

Kelso began their run chase well with top order batsmen C. Adams and J. Takos building a sizeable partnership with some fluent shot making. C. Adams managed 42 runs at the top of the order and was the pick of the batsmen scoring runs quickly, putting Grange on the back foot. Australian J. Takos also managed a handy 48 runs, which proved pivotal in Kelso’s run chase. Grange where able utilize the deteriorating pitch conditions which included variable bounce and turn with S. Davidson and M. Ahmed taking two wickets each. Kelso captain D. Wilson and G. Davidson took the game into the last over where the young all rounder and batting veteran did just enough to get Kelso over the line in what was a second to last ball victory. The two managed 10 runs in the last over to bring Kelso their sixth victory of the season. The Tweedsiders finished their innings on 183 from 49.5 overs with D. Wilson 25 and G. Davidson 12. Kelso play RHC away next weekend in what could be a crucial game for their season in terms of table points.
