Holy Cross v Kelso

25 June 16

Kelso CC continued their run of outstanding form over the weekend, defeating Holy Cross in what was a dominating performance for the Tweedsiders in the East of Scotland Championship. Home side Holy Cross won the toss and elected to bowl hoping to make use of the overcast conditions. Opening Batsmen C. Adams and inform youngster T. Grindell got the Tweedsiders off to a great start with a 61 run opening partnership. Both batsmen played to their strengths scoring freely and ran between the wickets efficiently. Kelso batsmen B. Grindell finished off the innings well for the Tweedsiders, playing conventional type cricket shots looking to take advantage of the slower bowlers. Strong contributions came from C. Adams 48, T. Grindell 30, J. Takos 20 and M. Hughes 19*. Kelso finished their innings on a total of 147 runs from their 30 overs.

The Tweedsiders have bowled outstandingly well so far this season and this strong form continued from openers G. Davidson and S. Cessford. The young pace bowler, G. Davidson bowled an extraordinary opening spell taking 4/15 from just six overs in what was a match winning performance. C. Adams followed suit, taking 3/14 from 4 overs complementing his performance with the bat earlier in the day. C. Davidson was flawless in the field taking 2 catches and snaring an important run-out for the away team. Holy Cross only managed a total of 43 runs before they were bowled out in the 23rd over. Kelso CC was extremely happy with their performance in all facets of the game, batting, bowling and fielding well. They look to continue this form when they come up against Edinburgh giants Carlton on the weekend.
