Kelso v RH Costorphine

Kelso 1st XI have posted their first win of the season, beating the East of Scotland Championship leaders RH Corstorphine by 5 wickets at Shedden Park over the weekend.  RH Corstorphine won the toss and elected to bat looking to post a sizeable total on what was a challenging wicket. S. Cessford opened the bowling getting the Tweedsiders off to a virtuous start with textbook swing bowling, claiming the wicket of Corstorphine opener O. Malik. Australian overseas pair A. Catt and D. Payne steadied the ship for Corstorphine by building a solid partnership before C.Adams and J.Takos removed both batsmen with exceptional deliveries.  Kelso’s S. Cessford went on to take 4/19 from 10 overs cleaning up the Corstorphine tail, leaving the away side with a total of 111 runs.  A. Catt top scored for the batting side with an elegant 18 runs.

 

The Tweedsiders began the run chase with openers C. Adams and G. Davidson who consolidated the lead by seeing off the RH Corstorphine opening bowlers. Kelso’s C. Adams and J. Takos looked steer the home side to victory with some intelligent running between the wickets accumulating runs effectively. RH Corstorphine’s J. Kinghorn-Gray was the pick of the bowlers removing Kelso’s top order with figures 3/23 from 10 overs. Kelso chased down the league leaders score in the 45th over only 5 wickets down with opener C Adams carrying the bat with an unbeaten 50 runs. Kelso’s win moves them off the bottom of the league table and into 7th place. The Tweedsiders look to strengthen their position on the table when they meet SMRH and Australian professional Tom Beaton at Shedden park on Saturday.
