Kelso v Stewarts Melville

11 June 16

Kelso Cricket Club faced SMRH in their round 7 fixture of the East of Scotland Championship over the weekend. Kelso won the toss and elected to bowl in overcast conditions at the picturesque Shedden Park. SMRH’s star studded starting 11 got off to an impressive start with a 52 run partnership at the top of the order.  Australian Big Bash professional Tom Beaton and wicket keeper M. Angelini looked to improve the run rate with some clever hitting and running between the wickets, maneuvering the field effectively. Kelso Off spinner C. Davidson broke the partnership with an extraordinary flighted delivery that turned and bounced, removing the prized wicket of T. Beaton. SMRH’s M. Angelini top scored with the bat for the visitors with and impressive 44 runs guiding the visitors to a solid total of 175. The spinning duo of C. Davidson and G. Innes-Ker were the pick of the bowlers for the Tweedsiders with figures 2/39 from 10 overs and 3/19 from 8 overs respectively. Kelso’s fielding performance matched the bowling, with some impressive catching and throwing between the wickets.

Kelso’s reply started off well with inform batsmen C. Adams and opener G. Davidson steadying the batting ship. Unfortunately the Tweedsiders made crucial errors with the bat at the top of the order, which led to a collapse. Kelso opening batsmen G. Davidson fought hard for his wicket showing great courage to try and put the Tweedsiders back in front. He piled on 30 runs in what was a formative innings for the young all-rounder. SMRH’s pressure with the ball and in the field proved no match for Tweedsiders, bowling them out for just 76 runs. SMRH captain G. Ruthven starred with the ball with figures 4/16 from 10 overs. Kelso look to improve their overall performance when they play Marchmont at home this Saturday in what should be striking game of cricket.
