Kelso v Victoria
24 July 16
Kelso CC hosted Glasgow based team Victoria CC in their Semi-Final of the Challenge Cup last Sunday at Shedden Park. Kelso CC lost the toss and were handed the ball in overcast muggy conditions. Inform bowler G. Davidson kicked off proceedings in fine fashion removing the top order with some textbook swing bowling. Victoria where able fight back with a strong 110 run partnership between opener Asif 43 and number 4 batsmen Farzan 60. Kelso’s overseas player M. Hughes managed to break the partnership and pick up 3 wickets continuing his form with the ball once again. Other overseas player J.Takos cleaned up the tail and dismissed victoria for 161 from only 30.1 overs. M. Hughes was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/33 from 7 overs whilst G. Davidson chipped in with 3/51 from 8 overs.
Kelso’s reply with the bat was commanding, with both opening batsmen getting off to a formidable start. The Grindell brothers Ben and Tom scored freely and begun the innings with a 76 run partnership before they were both dismissed in quick succession. The Australian and New Zealand overseas players teamed up with the bat this time and steered the Tweedsiders to a comfortable victory, chasing Victoria’s total down with 4 overs to spare only 3 wickets down. M. Hughes top scored with 43* and J. Takos finished with 30* whilst B. Grindell contributed with a handy 34 runs. Kelso will play in the final of the Challenge Cup in Glasgow on the 14th of August and hope to see all fans and supporters come cheer on the mighty Tweedsiders in what should be a thrilling game of cricket.
